In the cyber world, there are social networking sites such as:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Friendster
These sites enables us to socialize. This means, we are able to meet new friends. Since it widens our social circle, it is not a negative thing.
However...
In the cyber world, there are also stalkers!
They can:
- steal our identity
- direct viruses to our computers
- spam
Always remember that in the cyber world, not everyone uses their real identity. Stalkers can pretend to be nice and pleasant towards you.They could also be too friendly by adding you as a friend and be interested to know more about you.
Nevertheless, their real agenda is to steal your personal particulars that you update on these sites. Here, cyber security becomes crucial.
So, BEWARE!!!
- Some users are taking too many risks by displaying their address and telephone numbers on these networking sites.
- Stalkers can easily obtain these information and then trick you to get more information about yourself.
- Also, in some cases, there can get through your accounts and retrieve personal particulars about yourself such as account numbers.
- They could effortlessly withdraw all your money from your bank account instantly.
- Since networking sites are such platform for users to socialize, many agreed to meet strangers they know online.
- Not all have ill- intentions.
- However, for safety purposes, safety guidelines mentioned above should be practiced at all times.
- Stalkers can send viruses through social networking sites.
- You could unknowingly be opening up a file containing a virus when you thought it is an invitation.
- These viruses can also be spread to your friends on the social networking sites.
